Welcome to Chogakuji Temple,

temple of flowers and cultural assets.

Founded in the 9th century in Nara, Chogaku-ji Temple has many cultural properties inherited from its predecessors, and seasonal flowers and plants in the temple grounds surrounded by nature await your visit.

It takes about 20 minutes to visit the temple grounds and halls.

University&high school students:350yen

Middle school students:300yen

Elementary school students:250yen


How to enjoy the temple

You can enter Main Hall and the old temple house(Kyu-Jizoin) .※Double red circles.
In the main hall there’re Buddhist statues
(Amida Sanzon) and pictures of hell(Zigoku-e).
In the old house there’re Fugen Enmei Bosatsu and
a Japanese garden and a 400-year-old pine tree.
Please take off your shoes to enter both.


Guide (Main hall)

Chogakuji temple was built by Kobo-Daishi 1,200 years ago. The front gate is the bell tower gate. About 1,000 years old, it is the oldest gate in Japan. Beyond the gate is the
main hall.

In the main hall there’re Buddhist statues and pictures of hell.

The Buddha image is Amida Sanzon. They’re
desingnated as National Important Cultural Properties. Wecall pictures of hell ZIGOKUE.

Designated as Prefectural Cultural Property.
You can enter the main hall. Please take off your shoes to
enter.


Guide (Old jizo-in)

The house next to here is Kyu-Jizoin, a 400-year-old former temple of important
cultural heritage.

Fugen Enmei Bosatsu (Fugen Enmei Bodhisattva) is here. You can also see a Japanese garden and a 400-year-old pine tree.

You can enter the temple (Kyu-Jizoin) . Please take off your shoes to enter.
There are many other cultural properties such as a stone Buddha and a bell tower.
